sneeze at cardiff barfly

Europe/UK Tour September, 2002

arrived at cardiff to find that my brother and i were the audience for the first coupla songs by 120 mins!! strange but it gave me plenty of opportunity to say 'hi' to tom who was wandering around drinking baileys and bottles of blue 'WKD'! never met the guy before, but have been buying his music for ten years so it was great to finally meet him.....and a nicer guy you could not hope to meet! mind you, bumped into nic a few mins later and he was really friendly too - he even dedicated the third godstar song to me!!! hey!

120 mins were pretty damn good but had very little in the way of an audience, which was a great pity - they were more than worth a listen....in fact i don't reckon the audience every grew to more than 50-60 all night - damn shame for the bands. does wales know what it just missed out on?!

enter godstar - a semi-solo 'another spring' from nic (and kinda tom too at times!) followed by 'way out jim', aonther song i've forgotten (!) and a truely awesome (could it be any other way?!) 'pushpin'! no 'brightest star' but nevermind....over all too quickly (but nic said 'quick' was the way the set should be!) godstar morphed into 'the smudge show' - who ripped the place up - starting with 'outdoor type', followed by 100 mile an hour versions of 'ingrown', 'divan' and 'mike love..' they finished (again far too quickly) with a storming version of 'tenderfoot' never seen smudge live before - probably never see any of them live again either - and have waited forever for last night - and my god was it worth the wait!

sneeze shambled onto the stage - but not before nic did a 5 minute stand up comedy routine (!!)....he'd lost a bet with someone so he had to do it - and he got a few laughs too.......! the sneeze set lasted around an hour and ten mins, throughout which i sat there pretty much spellbound! this is what i can remember of the setlist - they may have been more..... ying and yang telephone, wu-li, too much man, i wanna be a woman, shaky ground (fantastic!) deaf girl, maybe movin in, don't go distant, if it's catchy i guess you stole it, tittie bar, loud and true, dr of love, no love on the road, bu, and the fastest version of ripped jeans i have ever heard - must of been over in around 30 seconds!!

strangely there was no 'you're not the only one' and i wish they had done more off the first ceedee (remember we fans in the uk have never seen you live before!!) but the set was perfect apart from that!

a huge hug goodbye from tom at the bar and a goodbye handshake off nic and it was all over............don't take so long coming to visit next time guys!
